Season 2 of the Netflix show 13 Reasons Why will be released worldwide on Friday, 18 May.
Season 1 was widely watched by young people around New Zealand last year. The themes of suicide, sexual assault, bullying and other issues led to many viewers feeling distressed and in need of support. It's expected that similar and equally confronting themes will be present in the upcoming season.
This series will be viewed by young people and is likely to spur discussion on these issues. Feedback from young people who watched the first season was consistent in that they felt it accurately represented the issues they face in their lives. Banning, or recommending a ban on, viewing can be more harmful than helpful as they will still watch it and will then not discuss it with adults.
