21 May, 2020

The Mental Health Foundation was asked to make a submission to Dr Sharon Shalev, an independent international expert commissioned by the Human Rights Commission to lead a review of seclusion and restraint practices in Aotearoa New Zealand. This is a follow up review from Dr Shalev’s earlier report published in April 2017 ‘Thinking outside the Box? A review of seclusion and restraint practices in New Zealand.’ The report and recommendations can be found on https://www.seclusionandrestraint.co.nz/.

Our submission has been informed by the perspectives, stories and voices of people with lived experience and Māori.
