Respect Costs Nothing Survey

Respect Costs Nothing reports the findings from a survey of 785 people with experience of a mental illness carried out in 2003 by the Mental Health Foundation to help shed some light on the nature of any discrimination happening.

This survey reveals that people who have experienced mental illness, have often also experienced discrimination in all aspects of their lives from employment and housing, to discrimination from friends and family and the community. Discrimination has left people feeling socially excluded from many aspects of daily living.

The findings will be used to help improve understanding of how to address discrimination, and to guide the future direction of the Government's Like Minds, Like Mine project to counter stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness.
