Andre Jackson - Louder than Silence Walk

Andre Jackson organised a sponsored walk in Aotea Lagoon, Porirua (2008) to raise awareness of depression and funds for the Mental Health Foundation.

Prompted by his own experience of depression, Andre wanted to do something positive to help others. He came up with the idea of the lake walk to get the community involved.

Andre says "I wanted make a statement that people who live with depression do not have to go through it alone."

The walk took place over 36 hours and many people turned out to support Andre and walk a lap or two with him.

James Lithgow & Paul McKelvie - Walk from Bluff to Cape

James Lithgow and Paul McKelvie took on the mammoth task of tramping the length of the country to raise money for the Mental Health Foundation. They set off from Cape Reinga in October 2005 and took five months to hike the 2924km to Bluff.

James says, "The most amazing thing about our journey was the wonderful people we met along the way. Not only were people excited about the hike but also supportive of our cause.

"Everyone has a story about how mental health has affected their lives or the lives of friends and family. The support, generosity and goodwill we received along the way made for an incredibly rewarding journey."
