1. Working Well Today

Working well means making workplaces, systems and staff the best they can be. That includes rising to the challenge of busy environments, flexibly balancing personal and workplace successes, and knowing what to do when the pressure is on.

This 2-hour introductory workshop looks at ways of identifying what ‘working well' and ‘lifestyle balance' really mean to an individual, and equips staff with ways to assess and maintain well-being at work and beyond. We also look at the myths and legends behind what a balanced lifestyle means in today's environment, as well as providing an overview of what working well means.

It provides tools to build the mentally healthy workplaces that are crucial for everyone. It looks at how teams and individuals can identify and harness the energy of stress, balance the demands of modern living and really identify what life balance is and how to relate that to everyday reality.

2. Working Well Today with Frontline Staff

Frontline staff are those who have first contact with the public, eg, call centre staff, those who work at shop counters etc.

This 3-hour interactive workshop builds on our Working Well Today workshop (above) while focusing on frontline situations. Most importantly, the workshop helps staff understand the concept of resilience and equips them to become more resilient themselves. Staff are taught how to bounce back after those tricky workplace situations to which many front-liners are exposed.

3. Working Well Tomorrow

In this workshop we build on the Working Well Today workshop to provide a specific focus on skills, strategies and tools that participants can integrate into their lives as a means of creating and sustaining better mental health and well-being.

This 2-hour workshop incorporates an advanced cognitive-behavioural framework, which enables people to understand the inter-relatedness of thoughts, feelings and corresponding behaviours. This understanding will assist in promoting change, contributing to better mental health and a solution-focused perspective in tackling workplace challenges.

4. Working Well Together

Research shows that a major cause of workplace stress is other people - the day-to-day relationships we have with our workmates, customers, the boss and our teams. This 2-hour workshop looks at identifying appropriate workplace behaviour, and ways to improve our communication styles. Practical strategies to better manage ourselves and our relationships in the workplace are a key focus.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants may wish to consider the small-group intensive follow-up, Working Well Through Challenging Situations.

5. Working Well Through Challenging Situations

Whatever you do, and wherever you work, dealing with people - be they co-workers, the public, supervisors, managers, clients, patients or staff dealing with people - is a key part of any career in today's environment. Learning to get along with others is the key to making work a happy experience rather than a challenging one.

This interactive 3-hour course has been developed especially for those who deal with the public in any capacity. It takes strategies from many of our mentally healthy workplaces, but also provides more in- depth and specifically focused ideas that will assist in dealing with those challenging situations you may face in your daily work. It is designed to raise self-awareness from current response methods to allow you to focus on empowering techniques and tools in every day realities and situations.

The workshop is designed for a maximum of 10 people so that we can not only work at a group level, but also assist each participant, where necessary, with specific working life instances for optimal outcomes.

Ideally, participants will have completed the Working Well Together workshop before enrolling in Working Well Through Challenging Situations.

6. Working Well Across Generations

As workers of the baby boomer generation move into their 60s and young people join the workforce in tough economic times, workplaces need to know how to reach workers across generations and promote a mentally healthy workplace for all ages and experiences.

Many are still mystified by terms like Generation X or Y,  and have even less understanding of what characteristics may be demonstrated at work. On the other hand, an aging workforce may have invaluable skills and knowledge but job capacities or training requirements may be changing.

In addition, while many workplaces are aware of the childcare challenges workers face, they may be less aware of the needs of those caring for aging family members.

7. Working Well Through Tough Times

A colleague's child is killed in a car crash. A workmate commits suicide. Your co-worker is made redundant but you keep your job. Your manager is behaving badly following her divorce. Work has cancelled all overtime to try to keep the business afloat.

The impact of bad things happening can be poorly handled in workplaces by both staff and management. Rather than blaming individuals for ‘not coping' or blaming the organisation for ‘not caring', sophisticated complex solutions need to be identified and implemented.

This workshop will draw on a range of tools to help workplaces respond more effectively to loss, trauma and trouble, and provide practical strategies to do so.

8. Working Well Supporting Your Staff

Leaders, managers, supervisors and team leaders need leading-edge skills to ensure their employees' behaviours align with the organisation's vision, values and mission.

This workshop highlights the mental health practices that will maximise managers' performance in building great teams. What managers and supervisors say - and how they say it - can have a significant impact on the organisation's quest to manage workplace mental well-being, enhance creativity, add value and identify potential problems quickly.

The workshop is specifically designed for managers and team leaders who often feel caught between ‘risk management' in light of the ‘mental harm' section of the HSE Act, employees' rights to privacy and support, and building a healthy, productive and profitable workplace. It covers the impact of organisational distress, individual stressors, management strategies and effective communication strategies.

9. Working Well Contact Centres

Call centre and contact centre work has increased enormously across all businesses and is now the key to substantial profits and incomes.

Fatigue due to shift-work decreases productivity, increases accidents and changes mood and eating patterns. Stress and depression lower resistance to infection and affect the way our bodies function overall, so it is vital to maintain good mental health in a contact centre environment.

This workshop provides practical strategies based on mental health research to help empower employees in contact and call centre environments. Tools to manage the impact of shift work on time and energy management, sleep, stress and relationships with those working different hours are also covered.

10. Working Well Managers Guide to Mental Illness

Mental illness is more common in the community and, as we spend a lot of time at work, it makes sense that it is a growing issue at work. Unfortunately, there are a lot of myths and fears around people who experience mental illness. This workshop aims to increase managers' ability and confidence in dealing successfully with the issues that may (or may not) arise.

11. Working Well Follow Up Workshop

Please note:  We highly recommend this workshop, as it enables staff to follow up and lock in new ideas and behaviours. It is an advanced session where we:

  • Review past workshops to see what worked well and what did not or each trainee. We also look at specific situations in the workplace to see how trainees managed with the tools they were taught.

  • Add extra tools that allow people to take responsibility for their choices and behaviours.

  • Show elements of cognitive behaviour theory based upon thinking before acting, and use models that can bring about real change in their lives and relationships.

  • Use workshop tools to help participants set goals that will improve their working lives today, tomorrow and into the future.

12. Working Well Presentations

Learn about the issues and some strategies around mental health in the workplace with these 1-hour lecture-style presentations. Each presentation is delivered by an experienced facilitator and mental health consultant. Topics for these presentations can include:

  • Life balance.
  • Aging in the workplace.
