Foreword
From Judi Clements, Chief Executive, Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand
Welcome to the autumn issue of MindNet, an e-bulletin for people interested in mental health and mental health promotion.
The theme of this issue is 'mental health promotion in communities'.
We are delighted to feature an article by Dr Samson Tse, 'Four key strategies to improve social inclusiveness for people with mental illness' - which highlights some of the ways we can support an individual's social and community inclusion.
Other articles in this issue delve into mentally healthy school staff rooms, a teaser on the upcoming Mental Health Awareness Week (8 - 14 October) and an article provided by our Australian colleagues, Lara Bishop and Stephen Rohan-Jones. In "Weaving the Net" they offer their advice on how to create mentally healthy communities.
We are also very pleased to review Chapter three (Community mental health promotion) from Rachel Jenkins book, 'Implementing Mental Health'.
And don't forget our regular columns:
- An update on the National Depression Initiative
- Our Research and Evidence list
- An update from SPINZ
- And SPARC's contribution on the role of physical activity in mental health – this time with a connection to local communities.
Thank you for joining us for this issue and come back later in the year to read our winter edition of MindNet.
