Foreword
Kia ora and welcome to the Spring edition of MindNet.
With Mental Health Awareness Week 2006 almost upon us, we have taken the opportunity to dedicate this edition to the theme adopted for Mental Health Awareness Week in Aotearoa; Happiness: Accept, Belong, Connect; or Ko te Whanaungatanga te maioha.
We have a Guest Editorial from John Raeburn, pondering the value of 'Happiness' as a theme for Mental Health Awareness Week. Another view of happiness is presented by John Schumaker, author of 'In Search of Happiness: understanding and endangered state of mind'.
We have an article about Mental Health Awareness Week, which gives background to the development of the week and highlights activities taking place. A major event during Mental Health Awareness Week this year is the launch of a National Depression Initiative, and we have an article on this new campaign.
We also have an overview of a new project promoting happiness in Chinese communities in Auckland, called Kai Xin Xing Dong, and an article looking at the links between yoga and happiness, along with all our regular features.
I hope you enjoy this edition, and I wish you well for Mental Health Awareness Week 2006.
