Foreword
Welcome to Issue 18 of MindNet. I hope you all had time to enjoy the fabulous weather with your family and friends over the past month.
This issue is now complete. In part 2 we continue our theme on wellness by looking at ways to live and work well in 2010. We talk to Marc Slade from the World Wildlife Fund for Nature about their report - Not just trees in the ground - on the social benefits of ecological restoration projects. Challenge Trust tells us about their Biggest Loser programme in 2009 and Dr Jo Gamble and Dr Arjan Scheepens from The New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research Limited share recent developments in functional foods in New Zealand.
We also have a profile about Ciaran Fox who works in the Mental Health Foundation's Southern Team and Kai Xin Xing Dong's recent workshop in Christchurch for the local Chinese community.
Other articles from part 1 include:
- News
- A profile about Lauren Tomsett's journey to wellness after four years of experiencing Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- A reading list full of links to articles and research about wellness
- A week in Steve Carter's working life (via the mental health promotion diary)
- Vanessa Cooper's research on employment and discrimination (now with a link to her Executive Summary)
- A review of Walking to Africa - a book by 2007 NZ Mental Health Media Grant recipient Jessica Le Bas.
We hope you enjoy reading the articles in this issue and remember, if you are interested in contributing an article to MindNet then please feel free to contact the Mental Health Foundation at mindnet@mentalhealth.org.nz
We would also love your feedback, so please tell us what you think about this online newsletter.
We'll be back in touch later in February with articles for Issue 19.
Naku iti-nei, Judi Clements
