Issue 12 - Summer 07/08

ISSN 1178-2587

Foreword

Judi ClementsHappy New Year to you all! I hope that you had a relaxing Christmas break and enjoyed time out with your family, whanau and friends.

In our summer issue, we are taking a special look back at mental health promotion in New Zealand over the last ten years.

To lead us into the issue we're privileged to have former Mental Health Foundation Board member and retired associate professor, John Raeburn, as our guest editor discussing how a changing world is going to impact on people's mental health and mental health promotion.

Our other authors - Donna Leatherby, Pauline Brown, Marie Hull-Brown and Monica Briggs - take a retrospective look back over the past ten years of mental health promotion through their own personal experiences.

If you've been wondering what growth there has been in research and literature around mental health promotion in the last ten years, then you'll enjoy reading Mariette McClement's article.

And join SPINZ Director, Merryn Statham, to find out how suicide prevention has evolved in the last ten years.

We also have contributions from Nic Mason, who explains the link between urban design and mental health and Tim Antric, who discusses happiness.

Our regular columns update you on:

  • Our Research and Evidence list
  • Physical activity with SPARC - this issue we reprint an article that appeared in the Herald on Sunday's Your Body Supplement
  • Latest news from SPINZ

We hope that you enjoy reading our articles. Our autumn issue will be out early April and will focus on Maori mental health.

Yours sincerely, Judi Clements
