Foreword
Welcome to the winter issue of MindNet, an online newsletter for people interested in mental health promotion.
We are delighted to welcome our guest editor - Richard Egan, President of the Public Health Association (PHA) - who talks about the links between mental health and spirituality and asks "Is spirituality the new black?"
We are also pleased to feature an article by Alex Barnes, Senior Policy Analyst at the Mental Health Foundation, which looks at the connections between mental wellbeing and our environments.
With Mental Health Awareness Week 2007 (8 - 14 October) coming up fast, we have taken the opportunity to give you an insight into the theme (Who We Are and Where We Stand - Ko Papatūānuku tōku tūrangawaewae) with an article about connection - with the land and with people.
We also have an overview of the "We need to Talk" research undertaken by Janet Peters on behalf of Te Pou Workforce Development, and an article looking at stress in the workplace and the role of the employer.
And of course we have our regular columns:
- The SPINZ quarterly news
- An update on the National Depression Initiative
- Our Research and Evidence list
- And an article from SPARC, which promotes physical activity as a good way to improve mental health among young people.
I hope you enjoy this issue. Our spring issue will be out in time for Mental Health Awareness Week in October and will focus on providing thought provoking reading around this year's theme - Who we are and where we stand ~ Ko Papatūānuku tōku tūrangawaewae.
