ASIST Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training - Akd

Remuera

This workshop is a first aid level course in suicide intervention. Developed in Canada in the 80s, it is now used widely around the world, including by the US and Australian Military, social services in Ireland and Australia, and many NGOs. In New Zealand it is presented by Suicide Prevention Education, part of Lifeline Aotearoa.

It is targeted at gatekeepers in the community, those who come into contact with persons who are potentially at a high risk of taking their own life. The 2 day workshop looks at warning signs and examines participants’ attitudes and beliefs around suicide. It teaches a model for the gatekeeper to work through with the person which allows them to make an effective intervention, ensuring the safety of both parties. The ASIST course specifically targets this initial interaction, and participants are resourced with various organisations/agencies in the community which are set up to provide ongoing support and clinical treatment for the person.

The course is run over 2 consecutive days from 9am to 5pm.

The ASIST Workshop costs $360 incl. GST and this covers both days and all take home materials. Places are limited to 20 per workshop, and we are happy to supply quotes for in-house training.
